A campus-only furniture marketplace for college students, gated by .edu verification.
The problem
Furnishing a dorm or student flat is hard when you're juggling budget, space, and style. Traditional secondhand platforms are full of scams and offer little trust, verification, or secure payments for college communities.
What we built
We built a campus-exclusive marketplace app, created by two USC students, that connects students on the same campus into one virtual community. Access is gated by .edu email verification, matching each user to their university. Sellers process payments through Stripe Connect accounts, with Mebli automatically retaining a cut as fees. A rich filtering system covers price, condition, category, and more, and once an offer is accepted, buyer and seller move into a direct chat to settle details like how the furniture gets moved. Built on Ruby on Rails, with hosting handled by us.
The outcome
A verified, college-only marketplace built around trust, secure transactions, social connection, and reducing waste, addressing the core pain points students hit on traditional secondhand platforms.
