OMC International
A pilot portal and first mobile app for safely navigating large ships through draft-restricted channels.

The problem
OMC International, an Australian maritime engineering company building e-Navigation technology for large commercial ships in draft-restricted entrance channels, needed to modernise its technology stack, ship its first mobile app for marine pilots, and offer a customisable web portal for port stakeholders.
What we built
We modernised OMC's stack, built their first mobile app for marine pilots, and architected a customisable web portal for port stakeholders, covering design, full-stack development and app store submission. The platform includes a responsive web portal, account management with per-port custom layouts, weather and transit monitoring, mobile data sources for wind, waves, tide and currents, independent auto-refresh per data source, offline and low-connectivity support, multi-language support backed by a Transifex term dictionary, and light and dark themes.
The outcome
We shipped OMC's first mobile app alongside the customisable web portal. Hundreds of ports across the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe use OMC products to safely move large vessels in and out of port, monitor environmental data, and plan port capacity. The client noted the work was done with efficiency, skill and communication, got right the first time with a relatively short time to market.
“They got it right the first time with a relatively short time to market.”
